ASBESTOS SURVEYING

As a property owner or manager, you may need an asbestos survey.

For many years, we've worked with individuals and businesses to carry out comprehensive asbestos surveys.

The survey acts as a basis of information on the presence of asbestos containing materials within a premises.

During the mid-to-late 20th century, developers used asbestos for many different reasons, including insulation products and even in wall coatings. However, we now know that the substance presents a significant risk to public health, with over 5,000 asbestos-related deaths reported in the UK each year.

An asbestos survey is now a legal requirement in a number of circumstances, including the ownership, refurbishment or demolition of a building built before 2000; while properties built between the 1950s and mid-1980s have the highest prevalence of asbestos-containing materials.

An asbestos survey includes both management of asbestos-containing materials, as well as recommendations for any remedial actions.

Remember, the risk of incorrect or improper removal of asbestos-containing materials is not worth taking. Asbestos has been proven to cause respiratory disease and even cancer, while the legal implications of such negligence can be huge. Nichol Associates is UKAS accredited; the only UK accrediting body testing the quality control procedure in the asbestos surveying industry. Therefore, you can trust us to carry out a full and thorough survey of your property, making sure the environment is safe for all involved.

To comply with the Management of Health and Safety and Work Regulations, and ensure our clients receive the highest quality surveying, we arrange for a minimum of two asbestos surveyors to work on a project at any given time.

Typically, we carry out one of two types of asbestos survey

Asbestos Refurbishment/Demolition Survey

An Asbestos Management Survey is designed to ensure a property adheres to all regulations concerning the management of asbestos-related issues.

If you are responsible for, or own, either a domestic or non-domestic property built before 2000, you’ll need an Asbestos Management Survey; this could include domestic properties, shops, offices, commercial or industrial buildings.

If the property has previously been found to contain asbestos, you’ll need to organise a re-inspection survey of the property each year. We can help with delivering consistently accurate and comprehensive surveys with minimum disruption, so you can rest easy knowing the environment is safe for all occupiers.

Keeping up to date with Asbestos Management is not just important for health, but it’s also a legal requirement. If you fail to carry out Asbestos Management Surveys at the required intervals, you could face legal prosecution.

Asbestos Refurbishment/Demolition Survey

If you own or manage either a domestic or non-domestic property that was built before 2000 and you intend to carry out any refurbishment/demolition work, you’ll need an asbestos refurbishment/demolition survey.

The asbestos refurbishment/demolition survey is carried out to identify asbestos-containing materials from the area where planned refurbishment/demolition works are to be carried out. Our team of qualified surveyors will carry out the process with the utmost care, preventing exposure to any occupiers in the building at the same time.

We’re qualified in delivering an accurate and thorough survey. Remember, an asbestos refurbishment/demolition Survey is for more than just peace of mind – it’s a legal requirement.

In carrying out the asbestos refurbishment/demolition Survey, the surveyor will:

  • Put in place measures to ensure nobody will be harmed by asbestos-containing materials at the site

  • Locate and identify all asbestos-containing materials before the start of any construction work
